According to the Gazette today.
Their corporate affairs manager was quoted "The proposals for the new Tesco store at Winchester Road have gained considerable local support. However there are some technical issues that need addressing and, in agreement with the council, we have withdrawn the application to consider the best way to proceed."
The Gazette also reveals that there were 65 comments on the application of which only 25 were negative.....

Why was this moved to "off topic"? This couldn't be more on topic for us!

This was/is the Tesco's plan for the land on the old Smith's Industries site, if it does not go ahead a lot of 106 money will be lost. 106 money is pledged by developer's to local projects as a way of easing their impact on the local surroundings. Personally I would of hoped that some of the funding for our new stadium would of come from this source.
But hey it only impacts us directly so it's not really "on topic" at all............

Thanks Scott, I wondered if there would be any connection with the Hub funding. Do you think waiting for the Tesco decision is at the back of the delay in news re the Hub compromise after the original failure to get the plans approved by the Council. I gather the problems with the Rugby club were resolved and the plans resubmitted and was expecting a prompt favourable response from the Council, but instead we've had total silence from all quarters. A bit worrying I feel.

What is shows is just how much that goes on that the club has no influence on! For those that complain about lack of info about the very latest developments on the new ground, how could the club make a statement about the possible 106 money when the decision is beyond the knowledge of the club? 106 funding is just one avenue for possible funding for a new ground so we shouldn't be overly worried.

Thats true Scott. I have never heard of 106 money, its a totally new term for me and proves your point. Never the less, when all one knows is what is posted on the forums, it is impossible to know what does and what does not affect the club, therefore all one can do is ask. I hope I am not seen as complaining abour lack of info, but I am keen, like many supporters, to get any concerns cleared up that may arisen in my mind.
